Windows 10 Fall Creators Update (1709) Cannot Access Samba Share as a Guest

Windows 10 Fall Creators Update (1709) Cannot Access Samba Share as a Guest

Windows 10 1709 (Fall Creators Update) delivers the following error:

An error occurred while reconnecting X: to
\\XXXX\XXXX
Microsoft Windows Network: You can’t access this shared folder because your organization’s security policies block unauthenticated guest access. These policies help protect your PC from unsafe or malicious devices on the network.

Windows 10 1709 Cannot Access SMB2 Share Guest Access

This is because the latest update to Windows 10 (Fall Creators Update 1709) changes a registry key setting preventing access to network shares as a guest.

There are two ways to fix this issue:

  1. Change the following GPO to “Enabled”: Computer configuration > administrative templates > network > Lanman Workstation >> Enable insecure guest logons
Windows 10 1709 Cannot Access SMB2 Share Guest Access
2. Change the relevant registry key:
 [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\LanmanWorkstation\Parameters] “AllowInsecureGuestAuth”=dword:1
